Birthday Weekend

Saturday
Another rainy day.  Oh hum.  Tom and I went to the pool in the morning and met Luca there. It rained, but it didn't stop them.  Julie and I sheltered under the canopy wearing jumpers and coats.

We met up with Matt at Bernies for lunch and then came home.  Tom and I had a session wrapping Matt's birthday presents up and then we all watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the telly in the afternoon.  Tom needed some down time, after a very busy week.

Sunday
Birthday Boy
Matt's birthday.  He had chosen a train day out with good food - of course!  So after opening all his presents, we had breakfast and headed to Ribblehead ready for the train to Leeds.  We got there just in time for lunch - what place better to have lunch than Fazenda - the wonderful Brazilian BBQ place we go to from time to time.  This time we took Tom with us.

We got ourselves settled down after a trip to the salad bar and then enjoyed a number of pieces of wonderfully cooked steak, gammon and chicken, all finished off with some red wine (for digestive purposes of course)  It was as good as ever, but we were stuffed (again).  We went for a walk around the canals and noticed a yellow boat moor up and people get off.  I went to investigate and discovered it was a free water taxi to The Armouries Museum.  We didn't really have time to go round the museum, but it was sunny and the taxi empty so we thought we would go for the ride.  Very pleasant it was too - it was about a 10 minute chug along the waterways to the museum, where we got off, went to the toilet, had a quick look around the rather good shop and then queued back up to get the boat back again.  We then went our separate ways - I went to White Stuff to see if I could spend my birthday vouchers and Matt and Tom went to visit the Lego Shop and Apple Shop.
On the free ferry

We were going to drop in to The Alchemist for a cocktail before heading home, however, Matt was suffering from a cold, and didn't feel like it, so instead we went to Wasabi to pick up tea (sushi) and then did some train spotting before heading home.

All in all it was a very pleasant day.  Oh - apart from the fact that Tom got a ravenous appetite on our return home and ate ALL of the sushi we picked up from Wasabi, meaning Matt and I had to find something from the cupboard for tea - the little gannet!
