District Cricket

So after training once a week all through the winter until Easter, Tom finally had a cricket match for South Lakes District.  I never quite understand District cricket.  They train religiously throughout the winter and then when summer comes - ie after Easter they do nothing - no practice matches, no outdoor training, nothing!  Then when everyone is on holiday they give you short notice of the very limited games taking place, which of course is problematic because everyone has already booked their summer holidays!  Anyhow, Tom was able to make 2 of the matches - and this was the first one, against East Cumbria which took place at Sedgwick which is a lovely cricket ground.  Luckily it was a rare non raining day too.

The match was ok, but the other side had a county cricket player on their side (we were told this wouldn't happen this year!) and it completely skewed the result as he was far and away the best player on the field - of course he is, he has had game after game after game of cricket this summer, whilst it was the first game for the rest of these guys.  If you took out his runs and wickets, it was a pretty close match.

Anyway Tom did well, he got a wicket, took a catch and scored 6 runs, was unlucky to get out.
