Oh my word - the heat. As soon as you exited the hotel a wall of hot moist air hit us and we were immediately sweating. We had all forgotten what heat like that feels like and along with the jet lag, we all felt quite discombobulated, especially Tom who was really struggling with the heat.
We walked down the side road on which the hotel was located towards the main road on which we had come in. Happily there was a 7-11 at the end of the road, so we headed in - it was freezing with air conditioning which was lovely. It felt like we were in Japan again, except the lack of onigiris and other Japanese snacks. We all got a bottle of ice-cold pop to refresh us (19 Bhat each - about 45p - bargain!)
We then looked for a restaurant for lunch and pretty much went in the first one we found, which was a Thai restaurant: the boys had Pad Thai each (peanuts all over it - yuck!), whilst I had green curry which was super spicy but really tasty.
We had found on google that we were near a park and knowing that we had to keep on moving to stay awake, we decided to look around. It was fiercely hot - so we slogged around it, it was very nice, but the heat was so oppressive that we didn't really enjoy it (turned out it got up to 40 degrees - no wonder we were slow!) We did a lap of it, managed to avoid the water monitors and pythons and then decided that we really needed to go back to the hotel and check out the pool. This we did and it was just lovely. We spent a good hour just enjoying being cool and wet!
Back to our hotel room, we had another shower each and then realised that it was the final of the Women's Football World Cup. It wasn't being shown here (not interested in women's football) so Matt managed to wire us up to the i-player via a VPN and we watched it whilst sucking on sweets to avoid falling asleep! It worked and although the Lionsses lost, they put up a good fight.
By the time the football had finished it was 7pm - high time for tea. We were all exhausted and the thought of going outside again was too much, so we decided to eat in the hotel's Mexican restaurant: tacos for Matt, burrito for me and an enchilada for Tom - guess who's was the biggest? All washed down with mocktails and we may have had churros and chocolate for dessert! As we were eating there were lots of flashes of lightening, thunder and train. This spooked Tom out to start with - especially the lightening - it is quite spectacular in a built up city, lighting up dozens of buildings as it flashes away. He was a bit jumpy with it all - but we just impressed on him how normal it is for this part of the world, and how exciting it is to watch.
We then dragged ourselves back to our hotel room and fell asleep immediately!
