First hike

Not such a good night sleep-wise. We moved Tom (while asleep in his travel cot) into the lounge when we went to bed, but he woke 3 or 4 times in the night. He only needed replugging each time, but we've been quite enjoying him only waking once per night recently. Might try him back in our room tonight.

Much nicer day today, clear and sunny, so we decided to give the rucksack its first proper outing down at Saltram House near Plymouth. It was very icy and slippery underfoot, but we all stayed upright and, as can be seen from the photo, His Nibs really enjoyed being carted about in comfort, and the rucksack was extremely comfortable. It didn't feel as if I had 12kg on my back.

The cafe at Saltram House was closed, so we decided to pop into the Dartmoor Diner for lunch, a place we've been meaning to try for ages. The food was good, the service friendly and the prices reasonable, but what really did the trick was the fact that they have a model train running all the way around the restaurant above the tables. Tom caught sight of this and was transfixed. In fact, Nik had a real job getting his lunch into him, not because he didn't want it; there were just so many fascinating things going on, mostly other diners.

Anyway, we eventually finished up and brought an excited Tom back to Crapstone, where he promptly crawled the full length of the lounge and then all the way down the hall to the kitchen, ably assisted by cousin Jake. Far and away the furthest he's moved in one go. Progress and no mistake.
